Message from the Chair
The past few years have presented unprecedented challenges, not only to Texas businesses and consumers, but to the way we practice law. Now, more than ever, it is important that we have attorneys trained in consumer and commercial laws to assist those most affected by the pandemic. Our section has a wide range of attorneys that represent both sides of the docket, which enables the section to learn together in an attempt to solve the unique problems that we as Texans currently face. This section has donated time and money working with pro bono legal aide societies to assist those that have nowhere else to go. In order to assure that future lawyers will be well versed, the section puts on an annual writing contest for law students interested in consumer and commercial law topics. Further, this section puts out a quarterly Journal with in depth articles written by attorneys that are at the top of their field, giving important information regarding matters that are of interest to section members. Going forward it is the intention of the council to strengthen the section’s website so as to provide legal information of relevance to those that practice in this area. While times have been tough, it is the goal of this section to assist those in this practice area to navigate the complexities and become better counselors for their clients.
Very truly yours,
Doug Scott
